so installed ubuntu 11.10 on hp pavilion dv6 a8 processor , hd raedon graphics. can install fglrx graphics if can command line. root shell prompt in recovery mode not letting me use apt-get or edit sources.list. need me low graphics mode can see or command line can install programs. i'm frustrated, please help!

to understanding can ctrl-alt-f1 command line after done booting, black screen.
in ubuntu precede our commands sudo...
sudo apt-get etc
sudo edit etc

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
