Thread: Installing HP Laserjet P1102W

hi, finished installing printer after hours of struggle. thought i'd give advice others.

installing on ubuntu 10.04.3 lucid lynx

** you'll have download hplip. version had not recent , didn't support printer. "sudo apt-get install hplip" said had recent version had download version needed. thess hplip page helpful

http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/downloads.html
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web.../hp_setup.html

next trying install it. needs proprietary driver typing in "hp-plugin". kept dying on me, giving me "eval: 1: ./hplip-plugin-install: permission denied" reason had set /tmp ram drive (in /etc/fstab)
/tmp tmpfs defaults,nosuid,nodev,noexec 0 0

see these webpages.

fixed /tmp problem (no longer tried mount in ram) , re-ran "hp-plugin".

works!!

other useful things hp-setup. or @ of "hp-" stuff typing "hp-<tab><tab>" @ commandline.

1 other cool thing, cups installed somehow , can sorts of things browsing "http://localhost:631"

darn! forget how set thread solved !!
