Thread: stereo separation issues, intel audio controller

i using ubuntu 11.10 on advent 8111 laptop. problem have audio device 'intel corporation n10/ich 7 family high definition audio controller (rev 02)'. nature of problem there seems issue l & r stereo separation, if there kind of signal cross-bleed between 2 channels. degree of stereophonic functionality audible,(l & r separation of instruments in stereo mix), when pan left or right using ubuntu sound settings, neither speaker muted. also, when pan control centered, right speaker considerably louder, , distorted.

additionally, audio output 's/pdif out', though i'm using standard analog stereo 3.5mm mini-jack. can see red light of laser inside socket, have no control on it's function. perhaps if sp/dif mode stuck 'on' constantly, analog mode won't work properly, i'm @ total loss how remedy it, if problem.

i've tried different combinations of audio equipment , leads, i'm updated, no required proprietary drivers etc. i've searched intel's download centre driver, , tried find forum posts outlining similar problems across web, no avail.

i'm new ubuntu, , i've exhausted ideas, although gut tells me there has solution!!!

can please me?
