hello,

i'm extremely new ubuntu please bear me.

i'm computers , can around, linux/ubuntu haven't grasped yet. i'm sure i'll hit ah ha moment when start click, hasn't happened yet.

on problem...

first started ubuntu 11.1 booting cd (not installing). when using cd wireless did not work until went dash home , searched apps , found "additional drivers". there proprietary driver (broadcom) installed , after wireless functioned great.

decided go ahead , install ubuntu 11.1.

after installing however, when search additional drivers, there nothing. i'm stuck not being able connect wireless signal again.

know solution problem out there since has worked on cd demo mode. don't know how pushed out install.

have downloaded believe driver broadcom website have no idea how install it.
have read on searches on internet need go terminal it, but:
1) don't know find terminal. on past versions of linux i've tinkered found terminal easily. although didn't know how use it. brings me to...:
2)i have no idea how use terminal if find it.

i'm looking generous person willing take time work me step step on find something, key in describe me going on when key in something. (i want learn happening in addition solving problem).

the latest ubuntu (oneiric ocelot 11.10) has new unity desktop side panel launcher. there few icons on launcher; might add own or remove ones don't use.

fortunately easy find applications:

click top icon on launcher (the 1 ubuntu logo). opens dash allow browse application or quick search. start typing terminal , find terminal can add panel if want.

right click of icons on panel keep in launcher if want.

regards wifi problem, think following page might of interest you:

may need fresh install ethernet cable connected allow updates , download driver.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
