Thread: xfce 4.8 xubuntu 11.04:windows restricted by panels' space

i have been using xfce 4.8 xubuntu 11.04 , been quite pleased appearances , possibilities of desktop environment.
however, annoyed fact windows restricted space occupied panels. 1 can play enter , leave opacity (transparency) of panels, wonder why opened windows not go on or under panels.
have been looking around (googling , specific forums search) , found no instructions resolve problem. there strategy permit overlapping of windows , panels?

i swear saw option somewhere....unfortunately, might have been confusing kde (i did desktop environment merry-go-round)

temporary solution might enable auto-hiding. i'm not sure if accomplish want, auto-hidden panels can have windows under them.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
