Thread: booting and running laptop from usb drive

i have ubuntu 11.04 installed on 16g flash drive , have been able boot dell year 2009 netbook , run netbook flash drive ubuntu os.

tried same flash drive on year 2007 sony notebook , not work.

had gone in bios enable boot external/usb device , boot order of usb first , hard drive second order.

when start sony vista os harddrive boots , ubuntu don't work.

why that? shoundn't flash drive work on sony?

please help.

laptop bios systems behave rather strangely sometimes.

whenever boot usb on laptop, reads usb hard drive. have tell boot hard drive, , (on separate menu), tell specify usb drive first boot drive , internal hard drive second.

plug in usb , poke around bit in bios. see if there's that. try disabling main hard drive (or not including in boot order) , see if can boot @ all. there might screen requires mash button boot removable devices.

if nothing works, there's possibility bios doesn't support boot usb.
