Thread: External optical drive not mounting on Lenovo S205 in 11.10

i purchased lenovo s205 mini notebook after girlfriends long lasting ibook g4 died. not wanting go windows installed ubuntu 11.10 , trying deal various teething problems seem happen when installing ubuntu first time.

1 of these external samsung dvd optical drive have doesn't mount in ubuntu despite registering in bios. when plug usb ports makes right sounds power going drive, doesn't mount ubuntu.

advice welcome.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
