Thread: I`m totally new to Ububtu linux and am totally stuck!


hi totally new "linux" operating system , have installed ubuntu 11.10 dual boot on windows 7-64 bit - have , try out!

straight away , feel , can see me staying if can head around how install additional programs, have been used click,click, click in windows in ubuntu totally stuck!

i`ve had on ubuntu website in "support" section , have read "how to" if (see below)

install other repositories


  1. <li class=steps>click on ubuntu software center icon in launcher, or search ubuntu software center in search bar of dash.
    <li class=steps>when software center launches, click edit> ▸ software sources
    <li class=steps>you asked enter password. once have done that, switch other software tab.
    <li class=steps>click add , enter apt line repository. should available website of repository, , should similar to:
    deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick main
  2. click add source close software sources window. ubuntu software center check software sources new updates.
1.but when click on software centre can`t find edit>software sources anywhere - edit button?

2.what "apt" line?

3. repository?

can see totally new of , learn. install qcad pro version on ubuntu (which available windows, mac , linux) dont know start. have been used using windows installer - there installer should using in ubuntu?

hello,

there many ways how install programs on ubuntu, using terminal, using various package managers synaptic simplest graphical way go ubuntu software center , click install.

prompted password , once in, should work automatically. no need fiddle repositories if application shows in software center.

if ever need add repositories (it's storage on net software , future updates ubuntu use), can add them via software sources said. edit menu (as other menus in ubuntu 11.10) hidden. hover mouse on title of window, on top panel. revealed.

careful add though.
