Thread: Login request on upgrade to 11.04

hi folks.

have been running ubuntu on laptop couple of years without major problems, , lot of successes.

however, did not realise lts selected in update manager , therefore still using lucid, number of versions old. upgraded through update manager twice (i 11.04) can't login.

on rebooting computer during installation, get:

ubuntu 11.04 splash screen

black screen

list of tests followed message:
"ubuntu 11.04 [computername] tty1

[computername] login:"

strange, because don't use password on computer. user , don't use login screen, don't think have ever set user name. have password use upgrades etc.

nothing have tried gets me past screen. either login comes again, or "incorrect password" message.

hope can help!

well during intial installation asked enter user name , password it.
1 should enter here.

but, otherwise looks kind of strange should go boot gui , login command line (terminal)

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
