i installed ubuntu 10.10 on old notebook. works well, have little problem. programs maverick repository outdated. want install updated programs. safe add oneiric repositories in software sources. should

i ppa's have specific apps want update, if possible. using versions entire repository bork system unless never did upgrades besides specific app upgrades 1 one. i'd think have libs , other os related upgrades available when add new repos, including kernel , other critical files. unity in mix in 11.10 , not in maverick end unsightly mess, if have time , inclination fun find out.
