Thread: recommendations for a wireless card upgrade?

hi all,

have serp5 intel ultimate n wifi link 5300 wireless card. card seems work on networks, when try use on work network, have serious issues. sees wireless network immediately, takes long time connect , disconnects, meaning need start process on again. time connect seems depend on version of ubuntu; i've been living problem several versions. on lucid bad usable. on maverick better. on oneiric (just upgraded few days ago) it's more or less unusable. i'm getting tired of having mess around drivers every time upgrade , never getting result want, i'm thinking of trying different card.

can recommend me replacement card work in serp5? can such card through system76, or there place it?

two things helped me out lot when faced same problem disabling ipv6 network in networkmanager , setting static ip address machine (not sure if possible since @ work though). other wireless cards have (usb) alfa awus036h (realtek chipset think) , have never given me real problems.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
