Thread: Terminal/command line skills needed

hi! wasn't sure ask apologies if it's in wrong section.

i'm running crunchbang wich based on debian , screensaver xscreensaver. when playing movie in gnome mplayer screensaver activates unless edit ~/.mplayer/config , enter (according xscreensaver faq)

heartbeat-cmd="xscreensaver-command -deactivate >&- 2>&- &"

my question is, part in bold mean?

i think ampersand (the & symbol) puts task in background. i'm not sure context though. if wrote

code:

mv largefile.txt largefile2.txt&

then put background of terminal command prompt show right away, , list background terminal tasks, can use

code:

ps

for processes or

code:

jobs

anyone else?
