update manager fails message: "failed download repository information. check internet connection. details eroblem executing scripts apt:update:re-invoke 'if[-x/usr/bin/daptup];then usr/bin/daptup -pre;fi', e:sub-process returned error code" searched portions of error-text, , found following suggestion; sudo apt-get update -o acquire::http::no-cache=true executed in terminal. started update manager, , announced 3 security updates. has been 12 days since last successful update. these 3 downloaded & installed ok. closed um, started again, had check updates ... , original error repeats. synaptic , software center work normally. see no other issues @ all. wubi 11.04. survived massive wubi meltdown, in 9.6. looked in mega-wubi, not see wubi-based. thank you! (hm. laugh-faces in text both 2-letter set; "colon, capital-p".)

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
