Thread: Virtualbox performance terrible with IOapic, amazing without it

installing windows xp guest virtualbox 4.1.8 (installed website .deb, 64 bit version) on kubuntu 11.10 host took extremely long time. booting virgin system on fast ssd took minutes. after googling found in previous years ioapic feature multiple cpus culprit. changed system 1 cpu ioapic disabled, , lone behold, system boots in 10 secs, , performance lightning fast! mean won't believe difference. before, opening "my computer" took quite while, , occurs instantly.

since use quad core machine, of course means 1 cpu can used guest os. disappointed that.

now, problem not new, people on forum have written since 2008. it's 2012!!!! surely, such long-standing problem people wrote years ago must have been addressed now? suggestions?

i've found slowdown ioapic virtualization way worse in xp guests win7 , linux guests. it's still there though. it's not problem virtualbox programmers can "fix". is, apps aren't written support multiple cores, virtualizing multiple cores has got pretty intensive process in code , execution.
