Thread: Wifi problems with Presario v3000

hello everyone,
inherited presario v3000 bcm4311 wifi card. had xp on it, buggy , decided download ubuntu 11.04 multiple reasons. 1. have supported open source movement , 2. going school information technology specializing in programming figured great try , learn few things. here situation. after installing ubuntu, wireless wont register connection. found broadcom 43xx connection issues forum, methods used didn't work. connected laptop wired connection fine, updated, , had installed bcmwl kernal automatically. still didn't work uninstalled , manually installed again through synaptic, rebooted, , still didn't work. wont let me scan. input modprobe w1, , message recieved.

fatal: module w1 not found.

continued search solution, nothing has come up. appreciated. living upstairs @ house , don't want have run 100 ethernet upstairs use internet if know mean. in advance.

for reason wl module doesn't work bcm4311 on either 11.04 or 11.10. easy fix though. open terminal ,

sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter firmware-b43-installer

when finishes either restart or

code:

sudo modprobe -r wl

then

code:

sudo modprobe b43

if necessary, may need blacklist wl module

code:

gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

add following end of file , save

code:

blacklist wl
