Thread: 52000 errors on laptop hdd

hey have had ubuntu while first time have had trouble not find relatively hdd on toshiba a300 not hold operating system more couple weeks. downloaded gsmartcontroll , told me there 52618 errors. hdd fujitsu mhx2250bt. os run week small thing start happening until whole system freezes whenever start reformat , start allover again.

sounds drive dying ...

write stuff it, sectors go bad , eventually, needed os gets corrupted.

then, reformat, reinstall, , happens again.

when sectors go bad, hard drive controller marks sectors unusable, when reformat, bad sectors not used again.

since keeps happening again , again, guess additional sectors keep failing.

if can find out make , model drive, can visit manufacturer's website see if offere downloadable utility can use check health of drive.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
