Thread: UEFI Mobo, GPT USB disk installation failure
hi everybody
i've searched bit on web before posting thread didn't come anything.
here's problem: asrock h67m mobo uefi support , up-to-date latest firmware (1.70). need install xubuntu 11.10 on usb3 1tb hard drive, gpt layout, no internal sata hd.
here's i've tried didn't work:
- set first primary partition, fat32 256 mb volume, boot flag "on" labelled "efi" these directories "efi/ubuntu" ( tried "efi/grub" , "efi/boot" ) on it.
not able create "grubx64.efi" according ubuntu uefi guide: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/uefibooting cause keeps telling me modprobe efivars, when did root hundreds of times.
- i've wipe down hd, create new gpt layout , partition table such / volume , swap area. primary partitions. installed boot loader on / partition (ext4) nothing works.
- wipe down drive again , tried mbr layout, boot flag on / partition. when boot didn't come warning no boot volume recognized, stucks on flashing underscore.
wipe down once again , create brand new gpt layout partition scheme no installation, following:
fat32 > 256mb > boot (recognized efi system partition)
ext4 > 40gb
unformatted > 40 gb
ntfs > 800gb
swap > 4gb
can please tell me step step, should install system live cd (64bit version)?
since gpt works little bit different mbr, h**l should tell isntaller put grub when have select target device? i've tried "/dev/sda1" (the efi system partition) "/dev/sda2" (the ext4 / partition) didn't work.
last thing: source i've found www.rodsbooks.com nothing.
it' driving me crazy
any suggestion guys?
