i downloaded free "5 golden rules successful ubuntu desktop migration" canonical. document appears aimed squarely @ managers. couldn't noticing recommended open source alternative adobe illustrator ... xara lx. xara linux extreme forums have been closed of 04/09 , xara lx website last updated 10/08. appearances project doa. not sure why canonical recommending @ all, less opposed inkscape. please pass word marketing guru's.

i devoted xara user before switching ubuntu 4 years ago , xara lx first program installed in addition stock ubuntu software.

bitter disappointment. @ time xara lx came out, 2 or 3 years behind windows versions. tried use lx projects started in win lx missing tools , did not understand windows xara files tried open it. after sitting on fence year felt gave xara lx honest try enough enough , switched inkscape vector-related , never looked back.

understanding of problem xara lx around time of lx release got bought , new owner not interested in making xara open source , did not have resources continue development proprietary software on linux.

anyhow, point: no, there absolutely no reason keep officially recommending xara lx since it's pretty dead project , far behind inkscape lead disappointment which, in turn, reflect poorly on ubuntu.

maybe xara lx made sense in 2008 in 2012 it's 100% inkscape vector graphic design.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
