Acrobat Pro X changing text to boxes when saving

have patched pro x installation on win xp machine. working pdf created outside our company. if make minor changes pdf, no matter are, , try save, of text changed "boxes" similar how print job looks when using bad drivers. specific font changed - other text saves normally. cause this?

i having same problem pdf created word document.  using mac , adobe xi.  there no images missing , xs-in-boxes aren't quite aligned text.  happen erratically text in word , text edit in pdf.  can deleted care concerned keep discovering new ones every time save document, close , reopen it.  working in archer book , embedded in pdf.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
