Easier way to set audio levels?

i found various clips had cut had wildly varying audio levels. @ first, tried drag volume meter audio track around, had no effect @ (kind of weird if ask me). discovered "audio gain" feature, want. sadly, makes me enter number, , that's largely guessing game me. there way can either visually decide how audio wave should (roughly, of course) or tell premiere pro "use same level clip"?

for varying audio sources, find audio mixer great making adjustments, @ track-level. after have done cutting.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
