Thread: 11.10 login screen is TOO dim

i upgraded 11.10 rom 10.04 , 11.10, , noticed on hp laptop, when grub running , during start up, can see purple standard ubuntu screen. then, once gdm starts , expect presented login screen multiple users, screen totally dark. chance, under reflection of light source, noticed white box gdm expecting password - box very faint. have hit function key increases brightness of screen able see normal gdm login screen, on laptop f3 key. once that, works fine. after login, can go system settings change brightness of screen, login session; on reboot, same problem appears.

running ubuntu 11.10 64 bit, updates , patches applied.
