Thread: apt-get and the Linux image that will no remove

ubuntu 11.10 64 bit.
grub , synaptic show linux-image (2.6....) present. want remove it.
synaptic shows objects properties having no associated files.
linux-image marked complete removal. when trying remove image system hangs , have crash system , restart reconfigure dpkg.
synaptic not let me change image attributes stop removal.
in state cannot add new files apt wants perform image removal (that hangs system).

have suggestions?

you cannot replace or remove kernel without having replacement. have more 1 kernel installed

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
