Thread: gedit will not open when started from terminal

gedit works fine when started launcher or clicking on file name. when try start gedit terminal gedit doesn't open , hangs until hit ctr-c. there no error output. running terminal root works fine. created user , have same issue. i've reinstalled gedit , disabled of plugins. ran live cd , ran system upgrade hoping clear things up. nothing has worked far.

guess permission problem of sort. there way turn on debug output can see gedit getting hung up? other ideas?

using ubuntu 11.10 updates , gedit - version 3.2.3

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
