Thread: GNU Emacs' problem on X11 : crash ERR_MSG "Font `Ubuntu Mono 13' is not defined"

i got gnu emacs' problem, can't work on x11 , crashes message "font `ubuntu mono 13' not defined" works fine without x, more xemacs can run without problem, gnu emacs version 23.2.1 , xemacs [version 21.4.22; august 2010]

saw on forum post related missign "ttf-ubuntu-font-family" or error in .emacs file or .emacs.d/ folder problem not related these "ttf-ubuntu-font-family" installed , makes no have no .emacs file , .emacs.d/ folder empty.
saw on emacs' man looks fonts in /usr/lib/x11/fonts , folder didn't exist made link between /usr/share/fonts/x11 , /usr/lib/x11/fonts , made no help.

problem seems related user's profile cause works fine other user's profile on same system (the .emacs.d/ folder on account same mine.

have ideas ?

i had same problem. removing x resources worked around it. in particular, there emacs related x resource setting shown on "xrdb -query" output:

emacs.fontbackend: x

"xrdb -remove" worked around immediate problem, not sure what's real issue. perhaps fonts missing...

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
