Thread: How do I install software to a separate partition?

as forum topic suggests, new world of linux. have chosen install ubuntu 11.10.

using work laptop , afraid of causing problems windows if dual boot. instead, decided install ubuntu on 16 gb flash drive , run there.

installation works fine, struggling install software (eclipse exact). keep getting errors have no more room on hard drive. have on 13 gb free , i'm not sure how resolve this.

have 40 gb partition on permanent hard drive formatted , accessible ubuntu. install software there or on remaining 13 gb of flash drive if possible. i'm not sure setting update.

thank assistance.
