Thread: How to install a theme Ubuntu 11.10 Unity?

i never thought day come, i've been ubuntu user on 3 years , here asking has got 1 of basic questions have ever asked in regards linux.

upgraded ubuntu 11.10 , running unity , can't figure out how install third party theme.

have run gnome shell in past, , know gnome tweak tool, , know how have enable user themes.

know gnome shell , unity both run on gnome 3.

in fact, have gnome tweak tool installed how lists far more themes ubuntu appearance tool. appears display listed in /usr/share/themes/

why these themes not listed in appearance window? how make them show in appearance window?

figured out through dconf-tools can manually type in theme /usr/share/themes/ ridiculous. how supposed tell people have convinced switch windows ubuntu that? never understand that, , far big of hassle me deal with. happened ability of being able drag tar.gz onto themes area , have automatically installed?

missing something?

you're not missing anything. 11.10 has taken huge step in settings menu department. have use ubuntu tweak, or gnome tweak tool, , unzip theme in themes folder, can select it. rather blows.

hope 12.04 fix this.

edit: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1.../edit?hl=en_gb

looks settings fixed 12.04.
