Thread: install ubuntu without changing MBR

i have laptop seems have recovery, windows7, , other strange partitions. possible install ubuntu or linux matter on logical drive, but @ end of installation tell write mbr/grub usb stick , not primary partition?
during power up, can use usb bring grub menu (and nothing more) , have load linux harddrive if nothing has happened.

current mbr has many options including bringing 'direct web' option opens browser without going windows , other strange options recovery, backup etc. don't want risk losing such thing.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
