Thread: asus eee pc 900 extremely slow

i bought asus eee pc 900(900 mhz) ,from someone.i upgraded ram memory 2gb ,and upgraded bios version(old bios did not let me install linux on eee pc)
tryed ubuntu(10.04,with gnome 2) , i'm using lubunu 10.04(installed on 8gb ssd).still slow. terminal apt-get update,and chomium 2 tabs opened(ubuntu forums,and yahoo mail-login page) makes cursor laggy.
updated system,upgraded,installed intel video drivers..
can do?or,what system should use machine ,to run flawless?(i dont openbox/fluxbox,but tryed them ,and it's same speed-installed minimal cd)ofcourse,i dont expect same resoults quad core..
but,laggy cursour?!

i suggest lighter desktop environment such xfce or lxde, available through xubuntu or lubuntu. if want stick ubuntu, first of disable many autostarted programs possible. use top or htop see causes heaviest load on cpu. suggest turn off desktop effects, if turned on.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
