Thread: Broken Package/Print Driver Issue
hi,
trying install latest canon mp610 printer drivers on wife's laptop (32bit) lucid , kde on it. ran dependency issue. downloaded debs , put them /usr/local/src, , attempted install them, first gdebi, dpkg.
@ first, dpkg/gdebi refused install because libcupsys2 not fulfilled. tried install libcupsys2 apt-get, said libcupsys2 had been replaced libcups2, , libcups2 latest version.
assuming libcups2 match libcupsys, went ahead , installed both packages (the common , specific 1 printer model) using force-depends. installed fine, , though gui didn't work, printer nevertheless recognized system, printed, , had print head cleaning function in system settings - i'm happy - package system, both packages broken.
problem package management won't let me package management without first removing "broken" packages. i've tried can find make system accept them are, i've been unsuccessful. tried "hold" in dpkg, tried same in dselect, , tried find way change flags in apt, couldn't. removed , reinstalled million times, , did try different options, without success, can't recall now...
can me this?
im thinking try generic drivers , see gets you. start. dpkg has both ignore-dependencies , force option.
