Thread: Can I convert my Ubuntu installation to Xubuntu?

i rescued aunt's old laptop , installed ubuntu on it. while has made faster previous windows xp installation, think should have instead installed xubuntu.

possible me convert ubuntu 11.10 installation xubuntu 11.10, or need delete partition , start over?

yeah. can several ways.

first

sudo apt-get install tasksel

sudo tasksel

uncheck ubuntu-desktop , choose xubuntu-desktop

hit ok let system rest.

or, install xubuntu-desktop

run command on here
http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/purexfce


or install xfce ubuntu

sudo apt-get install xfce4

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
