Thread: External hard drive unmounted after computer freeze

hi, im running ubuntu 10.04 on compaq presario witha sempron procdessor.
in middle (more end) of large file transfer onto maxtor onetouch 1tb external hard drive, when computer froze. let go 5 minutes , gave on recovering, manually shut down.
when rebooted, hard drive did not mount. lights , whirrs , clicks, , shows in disk utility, no option mount.
worthy note had 1tb drive plugged in , functions , mounts fine.
im more or less newbie linux in general, gloriously appreciated, had not gotten backing these files yet.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
