Recommended coded for playing smoothly on a computer?

i have 14-minute sequence contains still images, titles, simple motion, , 4 different videos. sequence set based on largest video size of 1920x1080. final output being exported match sequence settings, , played in quicktime player on mac set loop on mac. play in vlc player if necessary.

 

after exporting video twice, noticing bit of lag when plays in quicktime player, , small amount of audio playing there no audio (i checked timeline , zoomed in twice) , have no idea why doing this.

 

1. expect 1920x1080 video  (about 3.5gb) exported match sequence settings play smoothly in quicktime player?

2. can recommend way compress/encode video retains quality, file size smaller , plays more smoothly?

match sequence settings suitable preview copy. common delivery codec h.264, either in qt .mov wrapper or .mp4.

 

h.264 has balance of quality on file size, , used pretty everywhere now.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
