submenus in Muse?

i can't change submenu backgrounds in muse.  there way?

1. click select menu widget
2. click again on of sub menu select (at top left of control panel, must see word submenu)
3. click 3rd time on top of sub menu item select (now see word menu item on control panel)
4. edit background via fill dropdown on control panel or via fill panel.
5. use states panel/dropdown edit background fill each state.
