Thread: Black screen on boot Ubuntu 10.04 LTS

last nigt seemed pc crashed after tryin open evolution, rebooting computer seemed choice, did so; got black screen multiple kernels boot from, no 1 did.
unplugged main hard drive see if hardware issue , tryed boot live cd, unfortunatelly didn´t work either. unplugged second hard drive (storage) , got same result, i´m unable boot live cd, on screen:

process:328 glib warning *** getpwuid_r() failed due unknown users id(0)

@ point i´m unable anything. step step procedure welcome, since i´m beginner in ubuntu... went months until now, feel real difficult issue fix.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
