Thread: Getting files from a mac HD in Ubuntu.

funny came forum ask , there thread on first page addressing it.
thread:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=852144

having same permission problem trying music , photo files clone of old emac on external drive.

tried sudo nautilus , able transfer music files ubuntu machine, buuuut... said transferred music files still have little lock icon on them. play, don't have ownership.. :-/

can fix this? saw in other thread changing ubuntu username/password match mac one. can that? if how? (i linux dolt, detailed) , if not other suggestions?

the mac files still have uid of old mac account (possibly 99) or owned root. uid in ubuntu (probably) 1000. hence ownership problem.

assuming files in music folder, command change ownership ubuntu account:

code:
sudo chown -r yourusername: ~/music/*
that ensure in music folder owned account - sub-folders , contents - since else had stored there owned yourself, won't matter. substitute account name "yourusername" , don't forget trailing colon after yourusername - ensures files placed in default group.

if mac music files in folder , need chown command, post back.
