Thread: Grub and Live CD boot failure
hi everyone,
i've been using ubuntu 3 years , encountered many problems , solved them quite easily, not time!
have asus eee pc 1000he ubuntu 10.04 , windows xp sp3.
160gb hd has these 4 partitions:
-windows xp sp3, ntfs, 30gb
-personal data partition, ntfs, 90gb
-fast boot partition, 40mb
-ubuntu 10.04 on ext4 + swap in 2 logical partions, 28gb+2gb respectively.
used ubuntu 3 years without big problems, formatted , reistalled 1 time upgrading 9.04 10.04, i'm not new , tried lot of solution problem.
here problem:
-if try boot grub (both normal , recovery mode options) results in blank screen. tried solve editing grub pressing ctrl+e , following instructions found on forums received error message stating failed mount /dev, /sys/, /proc, , target filesystem doesn't have /sbin/init. tried lot of solutions grub, no-one worked.
-if try boot 10.04 live cd, stops loading quite , pressing f2 shows message:
stdin: error 0
unable open '/dev/sda'
other infos:
-i can boot windows xp, linux partition fine since able open "ext2read" , save personal files in home folder.
-so can access every file , folder on linux partition, if need specific file helping me ask it!
-the live cd ok, cd used installing ubuntu 10.04 few days ago on pc, please don't ask me check md5 because cd it's fine!)
-i'm italian, excuse me language errors!
-someone else had same problem on forum, seems problem linux partition's filesystem there no working solution since i'm not able load live cd , repair filesystem.
there can me?
solution may format partition windows xp, i'm worried chance won't able run live cd installer install again ubuntu , grub same problem happens now.
if 10.04 cd not working, try newer cd fix things.
comes mind...
regards , luck
