hi.

got 1 ssd , 2 hdd's.
ssd: 60gb. (7gb free) contains windows 7
hdd: 1tb (640gb free) contains applications , software windows 8
hdd: 2tb (empty)

want run ubuntu windows (wubi). told me if don't install ubuntu on same drive windows, have enter bios chose witch os should boot.

want ubuntu on 2tb hdd, , still able use hdd more windows software , applications. if install ubuntu on empty hdd, able chose os boot, , still use in windows?


way install ubuntu on ssd, got 7gb free, ubuntu takes 6gb, wouldnt space left ubuntu applications.


suggestions should do?

if plan long term use of ubuntu, forget wubi. short term install, play around. updates break it.
not mention not running proper dual boot if windows breaks down, nothing boots.

yes, can use small part of 2tb disk ubuntu, , rest ntfs partitions holding data accessible both windows , ubuntu.

recommend installing proper dual boot, putting grub2 bootloader on same disk. in bios change first hdd boot , getting grub2 boot menu offering oss have.

space allocated ubuntu, depends on how plan use it. minimum allocate 10-15gb / (root) partition, , 2gb swap, or 1.5 x ram size if plan hibernate.

if keep home inside /, , plan store large files, adjust / size appropriately. can keep large data on ntfs partitions can read windows , ubuntu, said.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
