LR 4.4 Import Issues - Missed a Cure?
hello everyone,
since upgrading 4.4, have experienced number of new issues. 4.3 solid rock in comparison. 4.4 causing me need manually terminate and/or restart application numerous times daily, numerous times hourly. needed more bake time.
i posting this thread because, after reading numerous similar posts (i find i'm hardly alone) , hundreds of responses, not clear me there solid solutions. if there are, , missed them, hoping point me toward appropriate url.
my primary issue surrounds import.
the import function has been repeatedly (not once or twice, interiminably):
- hanging, becoming unresponsive after telling execute import. noticed immediately, @ file #1.
- incredibly slow, grinding halt after handful of files.
- sources dropped. sources listed. then, sources (e.g. card reader, smartphone) having > 100 files, source removed listing. can toggle arrow on other sources (e.g. expand file folders), nothing happens other arrow toggling up/down.
only solution, restart (frequently requiring manual process termination) , try again. have seen discussions regarding smartphones. never issue 4.3. 4.4, iphone 4s populate preview grid, after 2 minutes, disappears , grid goes blank. - importing large number of files (regardless of source) populate grid have exclamation mark number of preview images. solution i've found, delete effected files catalog, reimport.
- modifying import settings, such copyright or related info, terminate lr altogether, 30% of time. happened number of @ lr training class past weekend (different machines, oses).
- importing 764 jpg iphone (while writing this) has been going :30 , 1/3 (indicated) complete. we're @ point of 1 image imported ever ~5 seconds, reinforced entire grid object being refreshed each time. consider importing handful of files @ time, if more select iphone source , hit import grid populates, source lost, , starts over.
- one instance of 'insufficient memory' error.
there other niggling issues import major mess. i've read (and, again, see i'm not alone), these issues common both windows , mac, newer pcs , older, , in manner of mixed environments.
my own situation windows 7 ultimate, dell e6400, 4gb ram, lr 4.4. in cases reading cards via built-in card readers. primary cameras canon sx260 (jpg only) , konica minolta maxxum 7d shooting (almost always) raw (.mrw). content solely pictures, no video.
with regard smartphone discussion, have experienced these problems laptop docked, undocked, or without smartphone attached.
the relief have found is, when working memory card having >100 images (not many, in grand scheme), copy files local hard drive, import there. impression have, speed allows quicker execution, getting ahead of resource contention issues. purely gut feel thing based on observed behavior. nonetheless importing hd rather sd work better.
clearly 4.4's import has issues. word of service patch or 4.5?
i hear jt. apparently adobe doesn't. i'll try hdd import route, seriously, no solution.
yes adobe, it's me again. 6th post on infernal "upgrade". runnining lr 4.4 on 2009 intel dual core imac, 8gb ram on mountain lion (10.8). d600 nef files show in library preview, lr 4.4 says can't read them when import them. use external sd card reader worked flawlessly through lr 4.3.
i have tried repairing permissions, reinstalling 4.4, uninstalling 4.4 , reinstalling 4.3 (followed several reboots because read somewhere might clear up). none of these worked. measure did work setting dummy account worked 1 import , thereafter couldn't read nef files.
it nice if @ least knew working on adobe.
update: hdd route did work (thx jt) @ least have outlet nefs. still lengthens workflow , pita. btw, in testing on previous tests attempting import nefs did 1 nef isn't volume of nefs affecting import. imported 219 nefs via hdd route.
