Thread: Choosing between Kubuntu, Ubuntu, etc....

i have seen a few things mentioned. kubuntu, lubuntu, , xbuntu. have seen these names kicked around bit. have few thoughts/questions.

1. laptop screaming fast. 64 bit system. not worried overtaxing it.

2. these (kubuntu, lubuntu, , xbuntu) different os ubuntu, or run in ubuntu?

if decided run 1 of these have uninstall ubuntu? can boot windows 7 or ubuntu.

3. easy person 0% linux experience use? not familiar gnome 2.3 or other older versions. kind of blank slate. while not linux experienced, have considerable windows experience. been using version since windows 95.

4. looking stable, secure, easy use/learn, , customize. play facebook games, libreoffice, , far love linux.

5. idea of administrating other laptops desktop. laptops have windows 7 or vista. thinking of dual boot on of laptops.

6. os choose go on laptops. wife has acer netbook, , installed , got ubuntu running on no problem.

7. installed wubi. however, if decided change os so. not want format computers because there somethings family likes still use windows for.

8. prefer chrome, love thunderbird mail set up.

8. asking right questions or there other factors need consider.

they ubuntu different desktop environment. underlying stuff same.

can install in current ubuntu installation recommend fresh install of choice because each version comes it's own default applications , end lots of duplicates , things can messy. preference.

easy use.

if have screaming fast laptop can try them in virtual machine.

work nicely don't have stick 1 in network. use ubuntu, lubuntu , xubuntu in mine.

can dual boot windows. installing {ku,lu,xu,u}buntu seperate partition. wubi great trying ubuntu if going using lot should full install use system it's fullest potential.

can use chrome , thunderbird of them.
