Thread: Dual boot separate HDs without Grub

i want dual boot win7 , ubuntu 11.4 on separate hds want choose boot in bios not grub. don't want win7 added grub menu or windows mbr altered. grub automatically though when updates or when finds win7 hd. can enlighten me on situation, thanks.

it not automatically, way suggest multiple drives. each drive can booted bios, grub let boot windows can set bios boot ubuntu/grub drive , choose in grub menu. windows mbr not changed @ all. instructions second drive same drive not first drive main difference manual partitioning , choice of install boot loader.

grub install sdb or second drive, have use manual install or else. on partitioning screen combo box default sda. have change sdb, not partitions sdb1, sdb2 etc.

if have windows on second drive, may have boot loader on first drive in 100mb boot/repair hidden partition, check where.

install external drive 11.04.

maverick screens shown, other versions have slight difference in screens process same.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
