Thread: looking for diagnostic commands to repair master boot record

when restart computer, hard drive @ boot says 'no operating system found.' put gparted disk in cd drive , booted it. seems both partitions still exist. boot sector corrupted? if run grub.conf help?

want see /dev/sda or /dev/sdb

however, if better commands available, such linux equivalent fixmbr, i'm try well.
forgot mention, booting live cd assuming able me terminal give diagnostic read out. should clarify, it's i've booted right now.

'no operating system found.' grub message. means cant find path boot.

livecd, if want installed on sda, in terminal:

sudo grub-install /dev/sda
sudo update-grub

try reboot hdd
