Thread: No grub after Ubuntu 11.10 installation

i have windows 7 , unallocated space.

have tried install ubuntu 3 times, grub menu doesn't appear. ubuntu seems installed correctly, when boot computer starts directly windows 7.

have tried these options:

1. install ubuntu alongside windows 7.
2. manual ubuntu installation, select unallocated space , make ext4 partition , swap partition.

problem same.

suggestions?

i did new install of windows xp 11.10 2 days ago maybe can help. installed os's on different hard discs however. planning on doing 2 installs on same disc? tricky part doing dual boot install planning how need it, before install operating system. important since want lay out in advance how want partition hard drive(s). windows installed first, , used ubuntu install set /boot partition , create partition ubuntu (i created few ubuntu partitions /boot, /, /home, /swap). still believe win7 using ntfs. know within windows xp (so assume same win7), there disc management utility shows partitioning information , allows resize partitions within utility. can detect if there other partitions (such ext3/4), lists them unknown since doesn't understand ext3/4 journaling system.
