Use Case: View Popular products Technically: Want to "query" it?

hi,

 

i want build component shows popular content based on number of clicks page has had (impressions). read shishank's blog on approach seems involve (please correct me if wrong), parsing across pages, getting page statistics , sorting same build list.

 

if have (as in case), 70k+ product pages , want top 5 (and keeping in mind concurrunt hits on page in terms of performance/scalability considerations), approach little performance intensive.

 

here questions have on other potential approaches:

1. there way can use queries query popular products?

2. there way can schedule load impressions properties of node , use queries same?

3. other approach avoid impressions popular content or other approach scalable using queries?

 

please advice..

another problem using impressions seems case 1 has load balanced publish instances. (in publish server) impressions recorded? how make sure when run page view statistics on page, right number of impressions?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
