Can't open .idml in CS5, phantom .indd files

good morning, all!

 

here's slight stumper:

 

i have files i've exported cs5.5 .idml, when try open them in cs5, status bar seems successful, typical missing plugin error message associated opening .indd files directly. in addition, error message indicates it's trying open phantom .indd files (they're not unfamiliar, recognize names) , seems stuck in infinite loop, clearing error message (i.e. hitting ok) prompts , requires me force quit darn thing.

 

this after repeatedly trashing preferences, indesign saved data file , indesign recovery folder , emptying system trash every single time.

 

i made trivial test file directly using cs5 , opening directly doesn't seem bring error message, attempting open .idml files does. i've re-exported cs5.5 files 2 or 3 times in case original interchange files corrupted.

 

any suggestions, recommendations, , tips welcome. i'm trying not have reinstall software if can it.

one disclaimer: did install dtp tools' cross references pro (on cs5 testing, not cs5.5) , haven't uninstalled yet.

this problem linked pages other cs5.5 files. cs5 can't open them , has fit.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
