Noob Question Guides/Anchors are not "on" the object I create

i know setting not getting right way... here problem.

 

when create object... path/guide/anchor not "on" object create... "floats" outside of object... instead of on object else's see in tutorials etc.

all of objects create seem have this... when try move 2 parts of flag together... have buffer area between them... , can't move them overlap.

i usiing illustrator cs6 way....

if view appearance panel (window > appearance) there applied there? such offset path?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
