Thread: Acer 7715z - 2 initial problems

hi everyone

yesterday tried install ubuntu on friends' laptop. (model 7715z, acer) booted live cd noticed screen going black normaly show ubuntu loading screen, after few tries, managed screen working through entering keys manage laptops brightness in random manner (this might work other keys haven't tried it). did this, terminal usual showed keycharacters response, after whitch succesfully showed live system.

above first problem i'd with.
secondly

while in live ubuntu system mousepad did not work @ followed few standard procedures on ubuntu guides told me assume kernel compatability issue.

there way determine distribution or version can work on laptop?

best of regards

vincent

hey,

have acer 7715z, im not using debian based distro right so
location of files may vary, solution works on every disto tried far.
im using linux right resolution card/screen.

00:02.0 vga compatible controller: intel corporation mobile 4 series chipset integrated graphics controller

nano /etc/rc.d/rc.local

add line

setpci -s 00:02.0 f4.b=00

do

nano /boot/grub/menu.lst

add

acpi_osi=linux

if still doesnt work edit mobprobe.d/blacklist.conf

add viafb blacklist

booting in live mode choose add line kernel
in grub add: nomodeset
( works installed system press "e" @ grubscreen

resolution wont set right u can use live cd that
( dont recommend everyday use @ least on
screen looks well.; ugly )

touchpad:

can't tell if case ubuntu many distro's
work out off box isn't enabled default.
check in settings if it's enabled.

xf86-input-synaptics needs installed

tap-to-click

click start , control panel.
select classic view left side of window.
double-click mouse icon and, then, select device settings tab.
click settings button and, then, tapping .
select enable tapping check box , click ok .

dont know if stil works in new gnome, used be

alt+f2

enter gconf-editor

goto /desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad

enable tap-to-click ( restarting gnome might needed )

hope helps somehow
