Thread: Cannot access files on failing hard drive. Help save my data!


hey guys, nice here , other obligatory first-post jazz

issue cannot past ubuntu loading screen (the purple screen dots, i'm sure you're aware)

when press esc see there number of errors being reported on ata1.00
now, secondary hard drive 250gb hard drive i'm trying recover data sister. unfortunately, running chkdsk in windows couple of days had power outage. read somewhere in depths of internet linux deals hard drives in different manner, , perhaps using linux distro way reacquire lost data. said, i'm new linux chose ubuntu , installed on bootable usb drive.

if able point me in direction assists me in reclaiming data hugely grateful!

well. kinda feel bit silly now.

ubuntu loaded after while of waiting, had assumed because repeating same error no discernible difference between them had hung , not going load.

issue cannot see hard drive in 'devices' section of gui's explorer. i've messed around in terminal little bit, , can see /dev/sda appears drive i'm after. has few partitions on it, 1 main partition (which has data i'm after) has 'recovery' partition , 3rd partition not see in windows has dell (it's 2.5" samsung drive dell studio 1535 laptop).

there way can access files on hard drive through terminal, grab out of "users" folder , done blasted hard drive? i've not had luck, i'm going keep trying!
