Thread: Crazy random keyboard freezes in 11.10

i upgraded ubuntu 11.10 v10.something when came out, , 1 of more recent system updates has introduced *very* strange behaviour. i'd started happening in past 2 weeks.

every once in while, usb keyboard stops working, , menus don't come anymore when click them. can use mouse, change applications, browse internet, , *but* use keyboard. after few minutes (at least 5, maybe 10) goes normal , can go day until happens again.

there's 1 weirder exception this: can switch out of x pressing ctrl-alt-f1 login console, , things there there's nothing wrong. top(1) shows nothing out of ordinary - chrome @ top of list using 5-10% of cpu normal, nothing eating ram , load average low @ 0.05 or 0.10.

if else experiencing these problems, turns out problem doesn't lie ubuntu @ all, chrome. restarting chrome fix problem in short term, , imagine they'll come out new update fix soon.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
