Thread: How I can make my ubuntu-laptop remain silent until told otherwise?
hi,
i'm using laptop quite lot in university surroundings. 1 thing bugs me is: turn on , login in, there numerous services trying connect kinds of places in web: ubuntuone, telepathy, gwibber, update, time, .... there wlan defaulting "get connection" , bluetooth available, too. network shared folders exists didn't know , in room squeels glee @ potential target new hack came with.
now:
there easy way make computer remain quiet absolutely possible default upon turning on / waking / logging in.
don't need automatic features looking current time, other peoples shares, networks available, updates, ubuntuone or other cloud service... besides turning off available in gnome-session-properties.
not informed in these regards, major "attention drawing" applications i'd need deactivate/remove or block?
thanks.
because of part quoted first recommend read basic security wiki. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/basicsecurity
, address specific concern, recommend removing applications don't use. way applications want run, no noise. updates, can configure manually update instead of automatically. if you're on development release i'm afraid can't give tutorial beyond finding update manager , changing settings manual only.
can manage permissions shared files. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/filepermissions
