Thread: mencoder and fast forward

hy everybody,

bought panasonic dmp-bdt110eg player , try
create avi files dvd collection. first thing
have learn avi no format, xvid format
running.

if encode dvd following line:

mencoder -dvd-device ${directory} dvd://1
-o ${directory}/${output}
-ovc xvid
-forceidx
-oac copy
-xvidencopts pass=2:bitrate=2000
-vf scale=1366:768

got avi able fast forward, until
ca half of movie. when try play, picture freezes.
have different running high resultion avi files are
able fast forward until end of film, windows
assume. think mencoder problem.

there suggestions, can better? there better
tools on linux? use ubuntu 64 10.04

-xvidencopts pass=2:bitrate=2000

in order two-pass encoding need do, um, 2 passes! see this details.

if dvd player can handle mp4 files, suggest using handbrake , converting format instead of avi. mp4 let use h.264 encoding instead of xvid. versatile container format these days matroska (.mkv), commercial players don't support that. if yours does, i'd use handbrake encode h.264 in matroska container aac or ac3 audio.

if stick xvid/avi combination, i'd recommend recoding audio mp3 in examples in document.
